MIC presents a Navigating Resources workshop focusing on the Oregon Health Plan or OHP.

Thursday, July 9th – Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP) Orientation
Do you have diabetes and want to learn how to live healthier, feel better and gain confidence?
The Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSMP) is a 6-week program, occurring every Thursday beginning July 16th through August 20th.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN:
• Smart meal planning and nutrition tips
• Safe and effective physical activity
• Proper use of medication and monitoring tools
• Prevent complications and staying healthy
• Coping with stress and staying motivated

Tuesday, July 14th – Voyagers Village and DevNW Homebuyers workshop
MIC and DevNW present the first of a 2-part workshop where we will be discussing Voyagers Village and home-buying tips and listings for those who are currently or will be seeking to purchase a home.

Monday, August 3rd – Literacy Celebration Night
Join MIC in celebrating our Family Literacy Series! In these sessions, family members learn about the importance of early childhood literacy and various tools to support their young ones.
TOPICS INCLUDE: School enrollment, progress of children’s learning at home, understanding the importance of family literacy, and celebrating family literacy session milestones.

Saturday, August 8th – MIC 5th Annual Back to School Resource Fair (La Grande)
Join MIC for a fun and helpful event as we give away FREE backpacks filled with school supplies for students! Open to all students and their families in Union County. Let’s help our students start the new school year with confidence and success. We hope to see you there!
LOCATION: Senior Center; 1504 N Albany Street (opens in Google Maps) in La Grande.

Friday, August 14th – Golf Tournament in Aumsville
Save the date for a fun golf tournament brought to you by MIC. Celebrate Micronesian Day through community fun and connections. This is a fun and friendly event open to all community members + all skill levels. Sign up either by yourself or with a team! Teams are limited to 4 players per team. Individuals must be 18 or older to participate. Admittance fee: $80/person. Please register by July 31st.

Wednesday, October 7th & Tuesday, October 20th – Voyagers Village Housing Presentation
MIC will host another presentation for our community housing project, Voyager’s Village, an affordable 41-unit apartment complex that is completing construction in Salem, Oregon.
One of the many amenities of Voyager’s Village will be its community center, tailored specifically for the Micronesian Islander community.
MIC highly encourages individuals interested in joining the wait list for Voyager’s Village to attend one of our ongoing programs. Community members will learn more about the timeline of application procedures, assistance with preparing required documents and an overview of the many advantages of becoming a resident of Voyager’s Village.
With our grand opening date fast approaching, we highly recommend you attend either of the two upcoming presentations scheduled for October. Please RSVP ahead of time on our Facebook Events page to let us know you’re coming!

Wednesday, October 28th – Marshallese cultural workshop
Micronesian Islander Community and Living Islands is excited to announce a special Salem Marshallese Cultural Workshop led by Nika M. Wase, a traditional weaving master.
Join Nika for an interactive workshop covering the impacts of climate change on Marshallese land, culture, and tradition. Community members can expect a night of storytelling, connection-building, and a hands on activity of weaving taught by Nika.
For this special workshop we highly encourage kids ages 10+ to register and join us, but this event is open to all!
