The Micronesian Islander Community was established in 2011. The organization formed over the course of a year, starting with community members representing CNMI and Chuuk gathering together in 2010. Eventually, the communities of Kosrae, Marshall Islands, Palau, and Pohnpei, and Yap joined. On February 1, 2011, MIC became chartered in the State of Oregon and its By-Laws were adopted on February 19, 2011.
In the earlier years, MIC organized the annual Taste of MIcronesia festival and advocated for the COFA community in the Oregon Legislature for the driver’s license bill.
