Happy Holidays And Musings For The Upcoming Year

To All Our Community Leaders, Members, and Supporters:

2016 has been an interesting and busy year for us all, and on behalf of the Micronesian Islander Community (MIC), I would like to wish everyone a Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year.

MIC would like to make several announcements:

  1. We are seeking new Board of Directors! Currently, we have three, and are looking for great leaders such as yourself to join us! There is an application process and we ask that you attend at least one of our meetings to decide if it is a good fit. Positions available include Co-Chair (our beloved co-chair Virginia Luka, is stepping down at the end of the year), Secretary, and at-large Board of Director positions.
  2. We hope that you will consider joining us for upcoming events/activities beginning in January. We will continue having bi-monthly in person meetings, with telephone meetings on our ‘off’ months.  Our next telephone meeting is Sunday, January 8th, 3PM. Our next in person meeting is scheduled for Sunday, February 12th, 3PM in Salem, location to be determined.
  3. We have had a successful year with grants! In addition to the revamping of our signature event from Taste of Micronesia to Micronesian Islander Community Celebration, we also were awarded the VOTE Partner grant with APANO and worked alongside several other API lead organizations in Oregon and hired our first part-time Civic Engagement Specialist. This upcoming year, we will be busy preparing for MICC 2017, offering leadership training opportunities for board of directors and community leaders (so even if you are not a MIC board of director, yet are engaged with the MIC community, you are welcome to attend and participate!), and other exciting adventures.

We hope you join us as we move forward with the 2017 year! It will be an exciting time indeed.

All the best to you and yours,

Jackie (MIC Co-Chair)
