Living Islands: Outrigger Canoe Building Project

Kianna Juda-Angelo has been very busy with an exciting project soon to take place at Portland State University (PSU). Kianna is the Executive Director of Living Islands, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization in Lake Oswego dedicated to cross-cultural education, environmental sustainability, and the needs of Marshallese community members. The art of Marshallese canoe building will be demonstrated and celebrated with a series of events. The Outrigger Project Opening Ceremony will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 from 5 pm to 8 pm at PSU’s Native American Student and Community Center. Marshallese food, dancing, and arts and crafts will be featured at the event. Participants will be given the chance to meet the building team, learn about the project, and find out how to get involved.

There are opportunities for volunteer work. If you are a college student at PSU or elsewhere and you’d like to get involved with the project, please complete the form here, or email Virginia Luka at vluka@pdx.edu for more information.

If you have questions about the Outrigger Canoe Project, you can contact Kianna at kianna@livingislands.org.
